H. Wood City
ME: Hey H. Wood City how are you and would you like to tell a little about yourself?
HWC: I’m good man. Just out here working as hard as I possibly can. Most people know me from different music video cameos I’ve done, like “Dowload” w/ Lil Kim & T-Pain and stuff with Soulja Boy, Master P, Romeo, etc. There’s a lot more to me than all of that. I just released my first single “Like An 808 (Drum)” on iTunes, I’m currently filming my reality show “The Real Teens of Hollywood” with the legendary Dick Clark as well as few other surprise projects in the work.
ME: Where are you from?
HWC: Originally I’m from Orange County, CA but now I’m based out of LA.
ME: What do you like to do in your spare time?
HWC: I love playing jokes on people. I could honestly say if I weren’t a recording artist i’d be a comedian. I think I’m pretty damn funny, too! (laughing) So when I have spare time I’ll do crazy stuff like prank call my friends (I can do over 10 voices ranging from DMX, Madea, Ghetto guy/girl, surfer, etc.)
ME: Who inspried you to do music?
HWC: No one inspired me to do music. It was something I was curious about and decided to pursue as a hobby in the beginning. Since becoming an artist there are now people I look up to in terms of creativity and admiration. Drake is definitely on that list, Lauryn Hill, Wayne, Missy Elliot, Frankie Lymon, etc.
ME: Who else would you like to work with in your music career?
HWC: My dream collaboration is Missy Elliot. Well, she’s ONE of them. I have many. Wayne, Drake, Beyonce, Tank, etc.
ME: Who is your favorite artist that is out now and why is that your favorite artist?
HWC: My favorite artist out right now is Tank. I love R&B. It calms me down, I listen to R&B music whenever I’m in work mode, which is often. His new album is crack! It’s on repeat.
ME: What do you think about the music that is out now a days? (Sound, Produce, Style, etc.)
HWC: I think it’s eclectic. I’m not mad at it. Since the internet has become what it has, we have access to all kinds of stuff. There’s something for everybody. I like how Hip hop has evolved, too. It’s no longer just one form of it. It’s now being fused with R&B, alternative, rock and pop. I like that.
ME: Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
HWC: That’s always a difficult question. I can’t say where I specifically see myself, but I can definitely say I’ll be successful, happy & financially secured.
ME: If you could go back in time who would like to work with? (Dead singer, rapper, etc.)
HWC: Tupac. Hands down. That man was such a poet. I still to this day bump all his old joints; thug passion, I’d rather be ya n.i.g.g.a, run the streets are all classics to me.
ME: What genre of music do you like to sing/hear the most and why?
HWC: I like to perform Hip Hop/Pop. It’s my comfort zone. I love listening to anything with dope harmonies. I’m fascinated with melodies and harmonies.
ME: Do you have any up-coming projects coming out?
HWC: I have a TV show i’m currently filming called “The Real Teens of Hollywood” which has been a dope process to document my hustle, grind and all that on film. I’m also releasing my first official mixtape “The New Guy” just in time for summer and people can also look out for my cameo appearance alongside rapper Paul Wall in the new Troop 41 “John Wall” music video.
ME: Have you been to different states/countries dealing with your music?
HWC: I’ve been to Vegas, Atlanta, Louisiana, Michigan, Chicago & Arizona. This year I definitely plan to hit places like NYC, Miami and Hawaii.
ME: Do you have an upcoming video to “Like An 808″ How is the video going if so?
HWC: It’s definitely something on the table, but as of right now there’s no video for the song. Rapper Lil Mama is a GREAT friend of mines and since I use the term “Lil Mama” in the song so much, I refuse to do it without including her. So whenever her schedule clears up. She’s about to begin shooting ABDC season 6.
ME: How long have you been in the music industry and do you think you have made a impact since you started?
HWC: Professionally, I’ve been in the industry for about 4 years. I definitely thing I made an impact. I started off with no connections and no help and now the network I’ve built is one to envy. (toots horn) laughing.
ME: Lol I know thats right. Do you go to other blogs orther then puckerrup to see if they put any news about you?
HWC: Me and my team are always looking for outlets to spread the word about my music. I love Puckerrup a lot, though!
ME: Lol aw, Thanks for that. Say for instant you go to a blog and see your news on there and you see people talking bad about you and your music. What do you do?
HWC: I see it all the time, especially with the TV show I’m doing. If you google it, you’ll find it too. It doesn’t bother me at all. All press is good press to me. It’s flattering that people even care enough to have an opinion. I laugh it off, I’m secure with myself so it’s all entertaining.
ME: For the record, it’s not all the blogs that are negative towards artists, there are a lot of positive ones that are out there.
HWC: Definitely, like Puckerrup, Concreteloop, Why Blue Matters, etc.
ME: Ok, we about to close this up. Time for some play around questions. Favorite movie?
HWC: A Bronx Tale
ME: Favorite tv show?
HWC: That’s a hard one. I’ll say Grey’s Anatomy, Law & Order: SVU is runner up though.
ME: What was your favorite childhood character? Lol
HWC: Arnold on Hey Arnold. I love that cartoon. I’ve seen every episode.
ME: Blackberry or iPhone?
HWC: iPhone. You can’t beat the new FaceTime feature
ME: Who would you choose for the best rapper alive? Lil’ Wayne or Jay-Z?
HWC: Neither.
ME: Oh really. So who would you choose?
HWC: I have no answer. It’s like picking which of your kids you love the most. I think it’s gonna be a lifetime debate. Each artist is great in their own way. I’ll say the greatest rapper of all time is Tupac.
ME: Well H. Wood City this was an outstanding interview and I wish you the best for all of your up coming events. Do you have in last words to say?
HWC: Yeah, support my single “Like An 808 (Drum)” and please go scoop it from iTunes. Even if you can’t afford the .99 right now, at least rate the song/write a review, that’s free! Thank you for interviewing me. I really do appreciate that. I know I’m not on the radio and I don’t have the number one single in the country so for you to take the time to review my stuff and see potential in me is beyond amazing bro.
